ROTC ROLLERCOASTER

Richard Washabaugh, a junior in history, does push-ups for an Army ROTC class in early October. Enrollment in college ROTC programs nationwide has dropped about 16 percent since the United States invaded Iraq in 2003. At ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù, which has the largest ROTC program in California, participation decreased to about 70 students last spring, down from 90 in spring 2003. However, enrollment rebounded this fall to about 80 ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù students, Capt. Jason Hioco said. Another 40 students come from California State University, Sacramento, which has an Air Force but not an Army program. Photo: Karin Higgins/²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù
