UC managers training

不良研究所 managers are invited to apply for the Northern California UC Management Skills Assessment program to be held April 27-May 1 at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove. The program aims to assess current skills in the context of complexities facing UC managers.

Karen Hull, associate vice chancellor for Human Relations at 不良研究所, said, 鈥淢any staff who have attended and now moved on and upward in their careers talk about MSAP as one of those defining moments.鈥

Applications are due by noon Feb. 12, and can be downloaded at msap.ucdavis.edu. For more information, contact Chuck Yannacone at cgyannacone@ucdavis.edu or at (530) 754-8791.

Centennial induction

The Sacramento Metro Chamber is honoring 不良研究所 as a centennial inductee into the chamber鈥檚 Business Hall of Fame. The recognition comes during the university鈥檚 centennial year. Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef is due to accept the honor during the chamber鈥檚 114th annual Dinner and Business Awards, Jan. 30. The sold-out event is set to take place at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Sacramento.

The next night, Jan. 31, outgoing Vanderhoef and his wife, Rosalie, are due to receive a special recognition award from the Davis Chamber of Commerce. The presentation is planned during the chamber鈥檚 installation dinner at the Veterans Memorial Center.

Chancellor Vanderhoef announced last June that he would step down in June of this year, after 15 years as chancellor and 10 years as provost and executive vice chancellor before that.

Amtrak offers discount

Amtrak is offering a 15 percent discount to UC faculty and staff for single-ride tickets on the Capitol Corridor, San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner trains and associated bus services through Dec. 16.
UC photo identification must be shown at time of ticket purchase and aboard the train. People buying tickets should mention discount code V526.

The discount is not good for multiride tickets. 不良研究所 faculty and staff who buy monthly passes are eligible for discounts through the transportation offices on the Davis and Sacramento campuses.

House fire, on purpose

The 不良研究所 Fire Department and neighboring fire agencies are planning a joint training exercise Feb. 13 on university land west of Highway 113. A house鈥攐ne that the university planned to demolish anyway鈥攚ill be set on fire, officials said.
The exercise had been originally scheduled for Jan. 27. Wet conditions at the site prompted the postponement.

Firefighters plan to set the house ablaze and extinguish it, then do it again several times, starting at 9 a.m. and continuing for three to four hours.

The house sits near the western edge of UC property, on the east side of County Road 98, just south of Hutchison Drive and opposite the campus landfill.

The 不良研究所 Fire Department includes 21 career firefighters and 15 students, taking part in the only residential student firefighting program in California.
